Project Details

The New Immigrant Healthcare Support Ambassador Project was developed to help newly arrived immigrants better understand and navigate the Canadian healthcare system while promoting healthier and more confident integration into their new communities. Implemented by Society for Equal Health and Rights (SEQHER), the project focused on improving healthcare accessibility, health literacy, and community support for newcomers who often face barriers such as limited system knowledge, social isolation, and difficulties accessing reliable health information.

Through health education sessions, mental health awareness initiatives, peer-to-peer guidance, and community outreach activities, the project created a supportive environment where newcomers could access practical information, ask questions, and connect with trained ambassadors and fellow community members. Participants received guidance on accessing healthcare services, understanding available support systems, and building confidence in navigating everyday healthcare needs within Canada.

The project successfully improved awareness of available healthcare resources, strengthened participants’ ability to confidently seek care, and fostered stronger community connections among newcomers. By combining education, mentorship, and outreach, the initiative contributed to smoother social integration and enhanced overall wellbeing for immigrant communities. This project was funded by the Government of Canada through the Canada Summer Jobs Program.
